DSL Connection Sharing

Connection Sharing by Jack Kennedy

Using an internal modem is not always such a great idea because it comes without hardware support, which is a crucial factor for the connection. Using an internal connection was a choice worthy of consideration in the past, but not so much today. Most people opt to have an external adapter because it comes with the critical technical support.

Two Choices

In today’s market, you have two major choices. One is to get your connection modem through a third party and the other is to acquire it from your ISP provider. The second option is much better as the connection will often come with specific ISP network configuration. Any variation will create problems with the connectivity. Also, by using a third party you will not be able to get the required back-up when necessary.

Using a third party is fine when you can choose your own hardware. However, though a choice may be available with your ISP provider (technical support), they may not readily share it with you. If you can use your own hardware for the connection, then you can look for a third-party product, which will have both the router and adapter in one body. In this way you will also save some cash on the system.

Remember

One important thing that you should know before you make your own choice is that when you install your own hardware, you will not have any technical support from your ISP provider. This can be a setback. Therefore, it would be better if you choose to use the hardware that your ISP provider has to offer. In the long run you will need their expertise and technical support in maintaining your connection trouble free.

Solution

There does happen to be a third coice. You could share your connection using the ICS (internet connection sharing). This will require the computer to stay on all the time. But it will solve your problem without any further complications. You will be able to use more than one computer on one connection without any additional cost.

What to Look for in a DSL Provider

What to Look for in a by Derek Both

So you are looking for a but have previously been stuck with one that you didn’t like, then you know just how important it is to make a good, sound decision about the company you choose to supply your service for you and get it right. If not, you could end up paying a whole load of extra money in fees for terminating a contract or paying for a service that you are not satisfied with.

If you want to avoid either or both of these happening to you, read on for more information on what you should be looking for the next time you are in the market for a .

These days there are a lot of small phone and internet companies that seem to be popping out of virtually nowhere. This is not always a problem, but these companies are not always the most skilled in what it is they are doing and they don’t always offer the best service, at least not at the very beginning. Sometimes these companies take a bit of coaxing and complaining on the behalf of the customer in order to get things right, and many times they end up getting bought out by a larger conglomerate of a company in the end anyhow.

If you want to avoid this happening to you, look for a company with a reputation that you have heard of before. This doesn’t mean go with the monopoly, but if that is what it takes to get a that you can trust, you might just have to do that.

Many a out there gets their customers by promising them that all they will have to pay is a really low rate every month, while the small print reads that that is just for six months and that service will be some other outrageous price for every month thereafter. Many people think that they can just get out of the service when that point comes, without really stopping to realise that they are bound by contract to that company and may have to pay to get out.

It is important to look out for good prices, not prices that are too good to be true.

Another important thing to look for in a is good service, preferably great or even outstanding customer service. It may not matter much to you now whether or not the salespeople have any tact, but when your service is down and it has been down for several hours and you can’t get your work done chances are that you are going to wish you had taken the time to find a company that actually pretended to care about how you felt about things and took the time to train their associates accordingly. It may not seem like a big deal now, but there will come a time when you will care.

DSL High Speed Internet

by Jack Kennedy

When comparing the cable internet connection with the internet connection, the latter has always been the underdog. However, is improving immensely everyday although cable is still more convenient. Let’s look at just how fast a connection is.

Service Providers

Your service provider will tell you what exactly the bandwidth is that you can rely on for your connection. It should be somewhere between 128 kbps to 3000 kbps.

Several factors contribute to the efficiency of your connection. The speed is mostly concerned with uploading and downloading of files. Some connections will have two separate bandwidths for these functions, i.e. 1.5 mbps/128 kbps which actually means that it will have a bandwidth of 1.5 mbps for downloads and 128 kbps for uploading of files. Uploading includes sending emails, files, and/or publishing on websites; while downloading consists of browsing websites, receiving emails, accepting files, and so on.

Residential

Residential users most often use their connection for downloading rather than uploading of files. For this reason, residential offers a higher bandwidth for downloading than uploading. This system is also called asymmetric connection or ADSL. The business users will prefer the symmetric connection because they will need to upload as much as download files while on the Internet.

Other Factors Affecting

A few of the other factors that contribute to the speed of your connection are:

• Phone line – the quality of the phone line is a major factor in achieving the optimal speed; copper wire seems to be the most efficient in this aspect.
• Distance from hub – the is known to be distance sensitive. The further it is from the hub, the slower it will become.
• Technical support – the maintenance and service provided within the network can sometimes slow down the speed considerably or even get it disconnected.
